The Monologue Bombs is the solo moniker of sinner-songwriter Scott David Phillips, a 30-year veteran of the Raleigh NC music scene. His live solo performances are dynamic and intimate affairs, with Phillips switching from piano to accordion to guitar and back. His voice has garnered praiseworthy comparisons to Paul Simon and The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy. Phillips’ songs combine a poetic eye for detail; a strong sense of character; and a bracing, emotional honesty. Lyrical influences include Bruce Springsteen, Richard Buckner, Joni Mitchell and The Promise Ring, while the music trods a more lo-fi indie path, with nods to folk rock and chamber pop. Recent collaborators include The Mountain Goats' Matt Douglas, Kate Rhudy, Chatham County Line's John Teer, Whiskeytown's Caitlin Cary, Schooner's Reid Johnson, and Rachel Kiel, among others from his beloved North Carolina. Potluck Foundation released The Monologue Bombs’ bedroom pop coming-of-age song cycle Orchard EP in 2020, as well as the full-band roots-rocking Reaves EP in 2022. Phillips is currently playing a lot of shows and writing a 14-song concept album (Night Before the Plague) to be recorded in 2025.
